Your feedback on the textbook project and units in A2

Hello all-
I can't believe we have only a week to go! You have done so well and progressed so much!

This is the last weekend to catch up on your blog - and add the last comments

1. Give your rection to the text book project: what strategies did you use to study? Were
they helpful? What would you change?

2. Please give your comments on some of the units we worked on this session:

Which ones did you learn the most from? What skills in particular?
Which did you like or not like or feel were not as useful as others? Why?
Which units made you think?
Anything else you would like to let us know about.

super skyscrapers
language learning
evolution
male/female communication
happiness
experimentation on animals
discrimination
video memory pill
looking for a job
Canadian English (whatever you did)
Engineering the Impossible
Who is responsible?
and, of course, on blogging itself

Remember - this is a free writing! This means you don't spend hours and hours perfecting what you write. It is your ideas we are interested in. You can take 10-15 minutes to edit for errors, and that's it!

Please be on time Monday for the discussion of articles, Tuesday for the video, Wednesday for preparation for the debate with your partner, and Thurday for the writing.

Have a great weekend,
Adrianne

This coming week

Hello everyone-
We trust you are focussing in on your research paper and will have something to show Monday, either some writing, or, for a couple of you, a map of main ideas and some basic organization so you are ready to write.

We will be watching a terrific video in the morning, and then, while we have mid-term interviews, you will be able to work on your paper. After Monday there will be less class writing time.

Your work is very interesting and we look forward to seeing the rest of your ideas on your topics.

Enjoy the day - take a walk, sit on a terrace for a little while as a break from your work.

See you Monday morning,
Adrianne

Plans for next week

Hello all-
Ii haven't received any desperate e-mails, so I trust eveyone is marching on, preparing the debate and reading for your paper.

As requested, we will do the debate Monday morning and write Tuesday. Please bring your research materials Monday as you will have time to work in class during the afternoon. Yes, work at school, and not at home! We want to be there to answer questions and help.

Wednesday and Thursday will be the mid-term; Wednesday for listening, Thursday reading.

More information will be coming.

Take advantage of the rainy weather to get ahead on your work. Then you can be freer to enjoy the sun when it comes!

See you tomorrow,
Adrianne

Relax, you are doing fine!

Hello all-
This is the time everyone starts to worry about the research paper. Never fear, you are right on schedule and Sherry and I are sure you will do well.

Please bring in material to work on tomorrow. We'll take a look at some tables of contents to help with your planning, and read a few introductions from past papers to give you some ideas of the variety possible.

We'll also begin framing the debate, so please remember to highlight the articles Sherry assigned to you.

See you in the morning,
Adrianne

News of the weekend and the week

Hello everyone!
Great work was down today on the Happiness summaries. I look forward to reading them over the weekend. Monday morning we will take a fresh "re-vision" and see where to go from there.

Next week
Also on Monday morning we will be having another guest lecture, this time by Judith Castle, who teaches social psychology here at Continuinig Education. She is a lively lecturer and will speak on a topic that is sure to please.

For next week, please bring in the unit on Experimentation on Animals: an ethical issue. You will be making up your own mind on where you stand on this issue, and the writing and debate from this unit will be part of the mid-term mark. The listening and reading mid-term will be on a different topic probably early in Week 6.

Research
This weekend try to get some general background on your topic. Once you have done that from books, you can turn to journal articles. If you haven't yet gotten journal articles, don't forget that the computer labs at Cont Ed are open weekends from 9 to 4.

Blogging
1. Please check Sherry's blog for some suggestions on what to include in your weekend blog on the research.

2. React to the unit on happiness. What do you think? Did the articles enlarge your thinking in any ways?

  • Don't forget to respond to the blogs of your classmates. Respond to different people for each topic.

Have a great weekend! Get plenty of rest as the race to the end of the course, the paper, presentation, etc. begins next week.

See you Monday...........on time please!!!!

catch-up time

Hello all-
The weekend is almost over, and many of you, like me, did not get to your blogs! It's time for all of us to catch up. This week's assignment were a reaction to the book project, and the posting of 5 research questions about a possible topic. You also need to comment on two of your classmates' blogs. Those people who did post, got good advice from classmates.

It is always difficult to choose a topic, but it is also good experience. Think of topics that relate to your career choice, or to topics that relate to interests you have always had, or questions you have wondered about. If you are stuck, we can talk tomorrow to find a place to get started.

Please bring the Happiness unit with you for the next week.

The weather is great - it seems like Montreal has pulled its old trick of skipping spring and moving directly from winter to summer. (I am sure I am being optimistic, it will get chilly once again).

See you Monday morning.
