News of the weekend and the week

Hello everyone!
Great work was down today on the Happiness summaries. I look forward to reading them over the weekend. Monday morning we will take a fresh "re-vision" and see where to go from there.

Next week
Also on Monday morning we will be having another guest lecture, this time by Judith Castle, who teaches social psychology here at Continuinig Education. She is a lively lecturer and will speak on a topic that is sure to please.

For next week, please bring in the unit on Experimentation on Animals: an ethical issue. You will be making up your own mind on where you stand on this issue, and the writing and debate from this unit will be part of the mid-term mark. The listening and reading mid-term will be on a different topic probably early in Week 6.

Research
This weekend try to get some general background on your topic. Once you have done that from books, you can turn to journal articles. If you haven't yet gotten journal articles, don't forget that the computer labs at Cont Ed are open weekends from 9 to 4.

Blogging
1. Please check Sherry's blog for some suggestions on what to include in your weekend blog on the research.

2. React to the unit on happiness. What do you think? Did the articles enlarge your thinking in any ways?

  • Don't forget to respond to the blogs of your classmates. Respond to different people for each topic.

Have a great weekend! Get plenty of rest as the race to the end of the course, the paper, presentation, etc. begins next week.

See you Monday...........on time please!!!!

catch-up time

Hello all-
The weekend is almost over, and many of you, like me, did not get to your blogs! It's time for all of us to catch up. This week's assignment were a reaction to the book project, and the posting of 5 research questions about a possible topic. You also need to comment on two of your classmates' blogs. Those people who did post, got good advice from classmates.

It is always difficult to choose a topic, but it is also good experience. Think of topics that relate to your career choice, or to topics that relate to interests you have always had, or questions you have wondered about. If you are stuck, we can talk tomorrow to find a place to get started.

Please bring the Happiness unit with you for the next week.

The weather is great - it seems like Montreal has pulled its old trick of skipping spring and moving directly from winter to summer. (I am sure I am being optimistic, it will get chilly once again).

See you Monday morning.

Great blogs!

Good morning!
I've been reading your blogs, and you are writing well, expressing thoughtful ideas. Please remember, though, to comment on the blogs of at least two classmates. That is an important part of the process (and your eventual grade!)

Most of you have sent your summaries, but a few have not. If you haven't, please send me whatever you have done so far.

You should be finishing your books soon. When you do, write a quick blog on your immediate impressions. What events stand out in your mind? What do you think of some of the main characters? Was the ending satisfying? Quick-writing your immediate impressions will help you later in your book review.

Well, we missed the 10 centimeters of snow this weekend, but we didn't get a cheerful day either. At least the rain and wind will help melt the snow more quickly and we will see grass and flowers sooner. Because of our long winters, Montrealers love their gardens and work hard on them. The city puts flower pots on the streets for the summer.

See you in the morning,
Adrianne

Welcome to blogging!

Welcome to the world of blogging. Together you will get to know one another better, and get reflect on and comment on units we work on in class, and to the world around us in general.

Use it as part of class, use it to tell your classmates about a good movie you saw, or invite people to go with you. Use it to raise issues for discussion.

Remember that any blog assignment includes your writing a response to at least two classmates.

By this evening, my blog and Sherry's blog will have a connection to each of you. This will make it easier for you to reach each other.

I look forward to reading many interesting postings!
